New iPhones get a launch date, Google to ‘offer’ instant loans, Micromax’s new phone and more

After months of waiting, we finally have the confirmed dates for the 2018 Apple iPhone launch. The Cupertino-based tech giant has sent out media invitation revealing the date when we will be seeing the next-gen iPhone lineup. As it happens every time, Apple is holding the event in the month of September and on the same day as last year. The date, however, is different this year.

According to the invitation, on September 12 (10.30PM) Apple will be launching the new iPhone devices, which are rumoured to be iPhone X Plus, iPhone Xs and the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone models at its Steve Jobs Theatre. The invite says ‘Gather Round, Please join us at the Apple special event at the Steve Jobs theatre in Cupertino’ along with a circular design.

South Korean electronics giant LG today launched an entry-level smartphone in the country. Called LG Candy, it is one of the cheapest smartphones launched by the company in India. LG Candy smartphone is priced at Rs 6,699 and will be available starting September 1. At this price, the newly-launched smartphone faces competition from Samsung’s first-ever Android Go smartphone Galaxy J2 Core; Xiaomi Redmi 5A, Nokia 2.1 and Micromax Bharat 5 Pro.

LG Candy offers a 5-inch On-cell HD display with 1280x720p resolution and 294 ppi. It is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor (unspecified) paired with 2GB RAM. On the storage front, users get 16GB internal storage and a microSD card support up to 32GB.

At the ‘Google for India’ event, the internet giant announced the rebranding of its payments appTez. The app will now be called Google Pay. However, apart from the change in name there are no other significant changes in features that the payments app offers. Interestingly, apart from payments, Google is also working with the banks like HDFC, ICICI, Kotak Mahindra and Federal Bank to provide instant loans to Google Tez aka Google Pay users in India.

These banks will have a set pre-approved limit for loans for individuals based on their bank account and Google Tez transaction history. The payments app will show the loan amount, duration and EMI amount and date on the Tez app itself. Users can simply set a auto bill payment from the Tez app to pay EMIs on time.

After teasing it for days, Oppo’s sub-brand Realme has finally taken the wraps off its second smartphone — Realme 2 — in India. The Realme 2 is claimed to be the first handset under Rs 10,000 to offer a notch.

The Realme 2 comes in three colour variants — Diamond Black, Diamond Red and Diamond Blue. Customers can choose to buy from the two storage variants. The base variant that offers 3GB RAM costs Rs 8,990, while the 4GB RAM variant is priced at Rs 10,990.

For imaging duties, the Realme 2 offers three cameras in total. There is a single 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture. It offers AI beauty support. On the back, there is a dual rear camera setup of 13-megapixel sensor and another 2-megapixel sensors.

Domestic handset brand Micromax’s sub-brand YU has expanded its smartphone portfolio in the country with the addition of a new entry-level smartphone, YU Ace.

The company, which launched its last smartphone Yu Yureka 2 in September 2017, has been Yu Ace launch since last few days.

The all-new YU Ace is priced at Rs 5,999. The smartphone will be available exclusively on Flipkart starting September 6 in an open sale. It comes in three colour options — Charcoal Grey, Elektric Blue and Rose Gold colour options. The YU Ace takes on the likes of Nokia 2.1 and Xiaomi Redmi 5A.

Micromax Yu Ace comes with a 5.45-inch HD+ display with 1440x720p resolution with an aspect ratio of 18:9. As per Flipkart’s listing, it is powered by a 1.5Ghz quad-core MediaTek MT6739 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM.

For photos, the smartphone has a 13-megapixel camera on the back and an LED flash. On the front, the users get a 5-megapixel sensor with facial unlock support.

Asus has launched three new gaming laptops falling under the ‘ROG’ series. The list includes two variants of ROG SCAR II and a variant of ROG Hero II. The Asus Scar II – GTX 1070 model (GL504GS-ES113T) is priced at Rs 1,79,990 and will be available from September 30. The Scar II – GTX 1060 model (GL504GM-ES155T) is priced at Rs 1,39,990 and will be hitting the shelves starting August 30. The Hero II – GTX 1060 (GL504GM-ES152T) will cost you the same as the Scar II – GTX 1060 with the same availability date.
